If Shane was at a loss words before he was in a dignified stupor now. His eyes looked from the blue-eyed news reporter to the young girl on the live feed and thought to himself that everybody everywhere was royally fucked. Shane stared into the sorrowful eyes of the young girl on the tv and didn't realize that he was staring at a mirrored image of the girl he loved sitting next to him. He couldn't believe it even if he didn't know who the girl was and also didn't know that she was Madison's sister. The older woman who grabbed her daughter gave it away.
"Jesus Christ." Shane whispered sadly and almost disbelievingly just as Madison stood up and ran to the bathroom. Shane watched the live feed for another couple of minutes while puking sounds came from the bathroom. Shane took in more of the feed after the sudden ending. The female reporter came back on and told everyone in an almost high voice that London was under seige. Shane clenched his teeth and furious eyes stared back. "What about Madison's sister and mother you piece of shit!" Shane spoke up angrily. The news reporter droned on about the virus, everything that Shane already heard.
Shane felt his anger subside very slowly. He heard the puking sounds fade but he looked towards the bathroom door. His hands worked to find their way to his knees and stayed there. This was all going downhill. Shane stood up and slowly walked to the bathroom not really knowing if Madison wanted anybody near her at the moment. Shane peered into the bathroom to find her curled up on the floor. He entered the bathroom but kept his distance. "Want me to go downstairs and get you something to drink? It could help." Shane didn't mind going back down to the supermarket, not one bit.
He stayed in the small alcove that led to the bathroom with his arms crossed. He knew there was no more reason to tell her that her parents and sister were dead. That time had come and gone and he really really hated himself for telling her its going to be okay. He hated how that worked; telling someone its going to be okay when the speaker in fact knows that its all not worth it. That's why when Shane offered to get her a drink he spoke softly. He felt guilty and stupid.

It wasn't Madi's finest few moments. She had realized after she had gotten sick that Shane probably heard her and she felt totally embarrassed. Her hair was still damp and it clung to her shoulders, making her cold. She sat on the floor not really knowing if she had the energy to move or not, she just wanted to rewind the clock. Maybe if she had time to get some kind of word out to her family they would still be alive. She didn't think it would get this bad and the only thing Madi could think of right now was to get out of New York and try and get home, but what was the point. There was no home for her anymore, her parents and her sister were dead and Madi was all alone. She was the only Bacardi left.
She heard footsteps coming down the little hallway and for a second she thought it was zombies and if it were zombies then Madi would just let them take her instead of screaming for Shane or attempting to fight back. She didn't really know what she had left to fight for anymore, she was just heart broken and felt helpless. When the footsteps stopped she looked up to see Shane looking at her. She wanted to smile but there was no way that her brain would let her. Her face remained emotionless as she looked up at him as he spoke. Her mouth was dry and she was a little thirsty and there was a cooler with cold drinks downstairs.
She nodded to him and this time her brain allowed her to smile. "Water if there is some." She flexed her muscles and pushed herself off the floor. She staggered slightly and fell into Shane. She had been sitting for only a few minutes but her body was in shock and still a little weak from getting sick. She wanted to go downstairs with Shane but she figured that she'd probably fall down if she attempted to go down the stairs. "I'll wait for you in the office." she said before kissing him lightly on the cheek before she made her way back to the office. As she walked in she didn't even look at the tv she just shut it off. That was the last thing she wanted to stare at right now.
She wished there was a dvd player and some movies that they could watch. She sank down on the couch as she waited for Shane to come back. She knew that she should be furious with him for giving her false hope and making her believe that everything was going to be okay but she wasn't angry at him at all. She didn't know why she wasn't angry at him, she just wasn't. In fact she was the total opposite, she knew that he was trying to make her feel better and for a while he had been right. Her family was alive, and she just couldn't be mad at him. She was thinking that maybe it was time to tell Shane that she was falling in love with him, maybe he was falling in love with her too.

Shane stood at the door frame as thoughts invaded his mind. He saw a weeping Madison kneeling at the toilet and saw a grim future. His mind wavered to the outside of the supermarket where the zombies conquered the streets day and night. He saw no hope for anyone. The only element that survived here was love. Shane turned around and whispered, "Water, got it." He spoke quietly to not bother Madison any further. He reached the stairs and found himself suddenly leaning for the banister to stop himself from falling. His fingers wrapped around the think wooden banister, just as he was about to fall. His vision became blurry for a second, he felt woozy and sick. He blinked rapidly to fight this sudden demon. He felt a cold chill run up his spine. It had appeared so suddenly he wasn't expecting it. His movements were halted.
A minute later Shane found himself pacing the aisles looking for a bottle of water. He heard the desperate moan of A Thousand Dead Voices past the windows and doors comming in from the inside. Shane felt his knees growing weak and as he walked he felt his legs were weak as well but he kept his composure as he finally found a pack of water. He pulled the pack from the shelf and let it dangle as he walked back to the stairs. His thoughts now being invaded by the cry of the zombies. Shane knew that they couldn't get in but he had a really sick gut feeling. The throbbing in his hand had gone away, for now. The only pain he felt was his love suddenly becoming active again. "Goddamit, Shane." He told himself. He found the door to the stairs and started to climb. He climbed slowly as if the stairs didn't lead to heaven. No place was safe, not anymore.
There was a time when the world seemed so in control. Now, everything gone up in flames. Shane felt sluggish as if sorrow had finally gotten to him. Hell, sorrow had taken him over. He did not feel himself. Shane continued to climb slowly wondering if this hell would ever end. Then he remembered his hand and if there were any other survivors. It could be possible that there were others. But the only thing Shane was worried about was the here and now.. and Madison. Shane walked into the room and found Madison had already left the bathroom. He ripped open the six pack and handed her a bottle he dropped the pack onto the floor, still facing her. He waited until she consumed a sufficient amount of water. When she appeared done Shane took her hand in his and pulled her toward him. He made his lips meet hers, his arm wrapped around her waist to press her more closely against him. After a second he broke the kiss and looked into her eyes. "Madison.." Shane backed up as he let her name roll off his tongue. "Take my hand." He extended his hand but knew that he was already holding onto hers. "I want you to know that you are the best thing that ever happened to me. Even with everything going on out there I can't wait for tomorrow to spend another minute with you, the entire day with you in my arms is what made me force my way to you earlier today when I thought I was down and out. But you saved my life which makes me love you even more and I would do anything for you. I want to have babies with you and possibly marry you." Shane felt alive for the first time in his life. He also felt that he had something to live for.
He had more to say to help consume his burning urge to love Madison. "We have each other among all this.." Shane waved his arm around the room to motion about the situation. "We will make it as long as we have each other. We will find survivors and unite to fight against it and as long as my love remains true for you I would take a bullet just so you won't get injured. I would die to protect you. Lets give it a shot." Shane meant that he wanted to be more than they were right now. He wanted to feel her against him, holding him just to make sure that she wasn't going anywhere. "I was never good at this whole love thing. But you know that we have to hold on until the end. I say we do it together." Shane still held onto Madison's hand as he let her digest this.

How was Madi supposed to go on now. She had just watched her mother and sister be killed on live television by zombies in England. Seeing those images had made her sick and she was actually glad when Shane showed up in the bathroom and asked her if she wanted something to drink. It wasn't exactly what she was expecting from him but as long as he came after her that was all that mattered. Madi hadn't said it out loud yet but she loved Shane. It was kind of a love at first sight thing. She only met him the day before when he found her in the storeroom of the tiny store across the street.
She didn't think it was possible to fall so madly in love with someone so quickly but she did and she didn't know how he'd react if she told him that she was in love with him. She was resting on the couch trying to keep still so that she wouldn't need to bolt to the bathroom again. She could hear Shane's footsteps on the stairs. The minute he entered the room she glanced up at him. She watched him enter the room and when he handed her a bottle of water she managed a smile as she twisted off the cap. She noticed that he was watching her the whole time she was drinking the water.
When she was done she put the bottle down on the desk that was close by and was about to thank Shane for getting her something to drink but she was interrupted when Shane took her hand and pulled her towards him. She was slightly taken aback when he kissed her but she didn't pull away. Madi didn't object to being pulled closer to Shane during the kiss, infact she welcomed it. Madi could feel him starting to break the kiss and when he did she licked her lips slightly and looked up at him when he said her name. When he backed up a little and asked her to take his hand she looked slightly confused but she reached for his other hand anyways.
She listened when he started to speak. She wasn't exactly expecting him to tell her that she was the best thing that ever happened to him. She wasn't expecting to hear any of what he was telling her but she forced herself to continue to listen without interrupting him. She was kind of shocked because he loved her and here she was thinking that he didn't feel the same way about her. A smile crossed her face when he said that he wanted to have babies with her and possibly marry her. She wanted to have his babies and she really did want to marry him.
Madi continued to listen as he went on to say that as long as they had each other then they will make it. The thought of finding any survivors was kind of grim in Madi's mind. What if they were the only survivors. What were they going to do if it was only the two of them. Madi wondered if there were any places that were not affected by this virus. Hearing him say that he would die for her pulled Madi out of her thoughts as she listened to him. Being with Shane was something she wanted. When he was done she guessed that he was giving her time to take in everything he had just said.
She stared into his eyes as the minutes ticked by. She could tell that everything he said he had meant and that meant the world to Madi. To know that despite meeting him less then 24 hours ago he loved her as much as she loved him, he just didn't know how she felt yet. Without hesitation she pulled her hands away from Shane and threw her arms around his neck and hugged him as tight as she could. "I love you. I've loved you from the moment I saw you walk into that storage room where I was hiding. I fell even more in love with you when I felt your arms around me all night for the first time."
Madi released her grip on Shane's neck and pulled back to look at him. She was serious and her eyes showed it all. "I want what you mentioned before. I want to have your babies and I want to marry you someday when all of this is over. I would put my life on the line if it meant saving you, but to live without you then I'd be nothing but an empty shell." Madi was pouring her heart out to him now, she only hoped that he'd still love her after everything she's saying. "My point is is that I love you and I want to be with you." she said before kissing him again. When she broke the kiss, she just wrapped her arms around his neck and hugged him.

Shane breathed much more lightly as he realized he had held his breath. "I'm sorry about your family." Shane said. He meant it. Shane let go of her hand and walked over to the couch where he sat down. He rubbed his hand over his face. Shane walked over to the door and closed it. He took his hand from the doorknob slowly as if he was closing the door on somebody. Shane turned back around and sat back down. "Do you think anybody made it?" Shane asked as if he thought Madison had the answer. He remained standing for about a second before taking a seat on the couch again. He sighed deeply. At the moment Shane didn't care about any other people except for Madison. He leaned back on the couch so he lay on its soft cushions.
Shane closed his eyes. He felt antsy. He opened his eyes again and found himself staring at the ceiling. "This has gone to shit. It was beyond anybody's power or knowledge. We are facing something that nobody has ever seen. Flesh eating monstrosities." Shane placed an open hand on his forehead. "Jesus Christ." His hand moved to cover his mouth for a second. His mind was still being rampaged with many thoughts of death, destruction, humiliation, humanity and Madison. He sat up. He looked at Madison for a brief second. His whole life he was searching for the one. When he found her it was in humanities finest moment. Nothing could stop the plague that had almost wiped out the entire human race. Shane still didn't know who had made it. For all he knew they were the only ones.
Shane felt himself slowly slipping into sorrow. He stood up and pulled off his shirt. He dropped it onto the floor as he placed a knee on the cot and edge as close as he could to the wall to make room for Madison if she decided to join him. He lay flat on his back with his head resting against the pillow, his hands folded across his chest. He felt the beating of his heart as it slowly pumped life into him and as long as he breathed life he would be there for Madison, protect her. The human race was indeed at its finest. "We didn't see this coming. Jesus... I am need to shut up." Shane turned his head to look at Madison again. "You like tired."Shane commented as he took in her appearance. Shane lay there shirtless and completely exahusted after the day's events. Who knows what tomorrow would bring?

Madi still wasn't sure what to make of this whole situation. Shane had just told her that he loved her and she had just told him that she loved him. Now that she knew how Shane really felt about her and now that he knew how she felt about him, Madi felt a little less alone. When Shane said that he was sorry about her family she stared at him and smiled a tiny smile. She dropped her gaze to their hands when Shane let go of her hand. She was slightly confused by this. She wondered what in the hell he was thinking right now.
He seemed distracted to her now and for a moment she just watched him as he moved about the room quickly yet quietly. Her eyes fixed on his when he asked her if she thought anyone else made it. "Honestly Shane, I don't know. I want to believe that there are more survivors but I just don't know." she said shaking her head slightly. She really didn't know, maybe their were some other people that managed to make it to a safe zone. Madi knew for the time being that she was safe with Shane, she knew that his love would protect her. Madison noticed how antsy he seemed, did he know something that she didn't. Were there zombie's down in the store that he wasn't telling her about, was that why he closed the office door.
Madi stood in silence listening to Shane as he spoke. He was right, things had gone to shit. Madi still didn't understand how this whole zombie outbreak happened anyways. She couldn't help but smile at him. She didn't know what was going on in his head but she did intend to find out eventually. Madi watched him and she noticed right away that he was sad for some reason. She thought he'd be happy to know that Madi loved him too. She watched him while he took off his shirt and dropped it to the floor. She took in his body while she watched him get comfy on the cot. She watched him as he stared at the ceiling, she watched his chest rise and fall with his breathing.
When Shane spoke she tore her eyes away from his body to look at his face. "I don't think anyone saw this coming Shane." she said shaking her head. She couldn't believe that she was just standing there watching him while he lay on the cot. She thought she was acting like an idiot actually because she should be laying next to him. When he looked at her she smiled and took a sip of water. She noticed that he was taking in her appearance and she thought that she must have looked like shit.
When he said that she looked tired she laughed her cute laugh and sighed. She wasn't going to argue with that comment. She was tired, they had a long day running from zombies and nearly getting killed, not to mention Madi having to watch her family get killed on live tv. She put down her bottle of water on the desk and climbed onto the cot next to Shane. "How's your hand?" she asked as she snaked her way into his arms. She knew that it would only take a few days for his fingers to totally heal, as long as he kept the splint and bandage around it. Madi yawned and tried to keep her eyes open but she couldn't any longer, she let her eyes close and let sleep wash over her.
